8 Ways to Celebrate Lunar New Year 2019 in Vancouver

As the number 8 is said to be lucky for the Year of the Pig, here are 8 ways to celebrate Lunar New Year in and around Vancouver this week!
 

1. LunarFest at the Vancouver Art Gallery

Interested in hearing about what 2019 holds for you? What about robots and lanterns? Check out the Vancouver Art Gallery’s event that includes fortune telling, lunar robots, and much more!

When: February 9th and 10th

2. Chinatown Spring Festival Parade

The 46th Annual Chinatown Spring Festival Parade will include traditional lion dances, marching bands, and martial arts performances. Celebrate Lunar New Year with over 3000 people in Vancouver’s historic Chinatown!

When: February 10th, 11AM

Where: Starts at Millenium Gate and heads east on Pender Street

3. Year of the Pig Temple Fair at Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden

A family-friendly event that includes a wishing tree, papercutting, Gong Fu Cha tastings, and a vendor marketplace.

When: February 10th, 10:30AM-4PM

Where: 578 Carrall Street, Vancouver

How much? By donation, suggested donation is $5

 

4. Chinese New Year at Aberdeen Centre

Aberdeen Centre is hosting several events to celebrate Lunar New Year 2019. On February 5th, there will be dragon and lion dances in the outdoor courtyard. They will also be hosting a Cultural Showcase Celebration on February 9th and 10th from 1pm-4:30pm.

5. Surrey International Lantern Festival

Performances, vendors, displays and many more activities will taking place at the Surrey International Lantern Festival this year to celebrate Chinese New Year.

Where: Cloverdale Millennium Amphitheatre Park, Surrey

When: February 8th and 9th

How much? $17.99 for adults and $7.99 for children and seniors

6. Lunar New Year at Granville Island

Granville Island will be hosting several festive activities this week to start off the Year of the Pig. You can watch the traditional lion dance, sugar painting, and learn Chinese calligraphy (registration ahead of time required, learn more on their website).

When: February 9th, starting at 10:30AM

Where: 1669 Johnston Street, Vancouver
